Snowmobiling is a demanding sport and over the years we’ve tried many brands of boots. I remember my first “snowmobile” boot, which was actually simply a winter boot, made by Sorel. It had the felt liner and absolutely no lugs on the sole. It kept my feet warmer than wearing tennis shoes, but hardly ever dry. Snowmobile gear has come a long way and leading the way over the last few years is Klim. When I had a chance to try their Adrenaline boot a few years ago I jumped at the chance.
Klim Adrenaline GTX boot
This boot has served me well and is a very comfortable boot. My feet stay warm and only on the coldest of days when I know I’ll be standing on snow or ice for a prolonged period will I add foot heating pads to my socks. When riding they work well to keep my feet comfortable. The pair I have is an older pair as seen in the picture here, well worn but not close to worn out, they fit perfectly and allow you to walk all day in them if you have to. In fact, there was a day when I wore these to a mall, yes I walked around a mall in these, because I forgot my street shoes. It just felt like I was wearing hiking boots. My feet got hot in them, but not sore at all, and they didn’t feel clunky.
In powdery snow, my feet never got wet. They would get lightly damp, but mainly from the moisture from my feet. They offer good support in the ankles, too, but aren’t so stiff or tight like snocross boots are that you can’t comfortably walk in them. The only thing I would like to have seen changed on the pair I have are the laces. They are the round type that are hard to thread and take more time to synch, and they stay tied about half the time. The new Adrenaline GTX boot has newer flat laces that should stay tied.
Klim Adrenaline Boot
One of our test riders, Randy Nemitz, has been itching to get a pair since I got mine and he tried on a pair at Snow Shoot a couple years ago. He finally got a pair of the Yamaha logo version made by Klim. Here’s his take on them.
“For me the Klim Adrenaline boots are perfect in nearly every way, except the laces. It’s not fun to lace them up and try to keep them tight at the same time. That being said, they make up for it everywhere else. They keep your feet toasty warm while at the same time wick away the moisture. These boots are very slim and lightweight; I like being able to slide my pant leg over the boot. One more amazing thing about these boots is walking through the snow. We all know the effort it takes, but these will cut the effort in half (crazy, huh?). It almost makes you feel like somebody is helping you walk.
