This story and photos taken from www.vintagesleds.com paint an amazing picture of Arctic Cat’s commitment to making the “World’s Fastest Snowmobile” back in the 70s. These Boss Cats were nothing short of incredible and Arctic Cat’s 50th Celebration in Thief River Falls, Mn during the end of July will be the last time these three Boss Cats will be seen together.
The amount of money and man hours that went into Boss Cat I, II and III was staggering. The result is three classic muscle snowmobiles that 40 years later still capture the imaginations of the crowds that come to see them.
Boss Cat I was totally destroyed in a fire in the early 1970’s with nothing of it surviving, except a parachute and the 4-cylinder motor that was used to start it. The Warning Family painstakingly researched and re-created the original turbine powered machine, seen here complete for the first time.
Boss Cat II & III are the originals, restored and running. The Warnings have hauled them to show after show after show over the past few years – and are ready to take a break. After the Arctic Cat 50th, they won’t be hauling them around anymore, and Boss Catt III will be going on display in the St. Germain, WI Hall of Fame.
